Failed to automatically enable the proxy settings in Internet Explorer.

This message occurs when the Mainester XL installer isn't able to automatically set up your computer to work with Mainester XL. That means that it will have to be configured manually.

This solution has two steps. You must first identify the local listening port used by your version of the Mainester XL software. You must then use this information to enter the correct proxy information into Internet Explorer.

To identify the local listening port in the Mainester XL software:
1. Connect to the Internet. Once connected, the Mainester XL icon will appear in your system tray at the bottom right of your screen.
2. Click on the Mainester XL icon to display the Mainester XL menu, and select Settings. The settings configuration screen will appear.
3. Click on the Details tab.
4. Find the value displayed under Local Listening Port and write it down.
5. Click OK.

To enable the correct proxy settings in Internet Explorer:
1. Launch Internet Explorer. You do not have to be connected to the Internet.
2. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
3. In the Internet Properties box that appears, click on the Connections tab.
4. In the Dial-up settings box, highlight your internet Dial-up Networking account and click on the Settings… button. The settings box will appear.
5. Check the boxes next to Use a proxy server and Bypass proxy servers for local addresses.
6. Click the Advanced… button.
7. For the Proxy address to use for HTTP: enter localhost.
8. For the Port for HTTP: enter the local listening port value from the Mainester XL software that you previously wrote down.
9. Click OK on each of the three open dialog boxes to close them.
Internet Explorer should now be configured to work with Mainester XL.

The file sdi.db, used by Mainester XL, cannot be created or modified. As a result, Mainester XL acceleration is unavailable for this online session.

Mainester XL uses this file to store information about itself while it is in operation. This message appears when the file has become corrupted, it or the folder that it is in has been marked "read only", or you do not have permissions on this computer to create or modify files.

Possible Solutions
A. Delete sdi.db
B. Make sure you have the rights to create and modify files

A. Delete sdi.db
1. From the Windows Start Menu, select Find and choose Files or Folders.
2. In the Named box, enter sdi.db.
3. In the Look in box, select Local Hard Drives. If this option is not available, select Local Disk (C:) or simply type C:
4. Click Find Now.
5. If sdi.db appears in the results windows, highlight it with the mouse and press the Delete (or Del) key on your keyboard. If asked if you want to send this file to the Recycle Bin, click Yes.
6. Try reconnecting to the internet.

B. Make sure you have the rights to create and modify files
If you are trying to use Mainester XL on a networked computer at your office, it is possible that your network administrator has not given you the rights to create or modify files within the Mainester XL folder on this computer. Contact your network administrator for assistance.

Mainester XL could not start due to a conflict with another application.

Either another Internet-aware application is already using the same TCP/IP port number that Mainester XL needs to use, or you are running a firewall program that prevents usage of that port number.
To resolve this problem, you will need to identify the port number that Mainester XL is using, and then either change to something else in the conflicting application, not run the conflicting application, or tell your firewall software to allow communication on that port. For information on how to configure the conflicting application or firewall, please consult the documentation that came with that product.
Note that it is not possible to change the port number setting within Mainester XL.

To identify the port number used by Mainester XL:
1. Start Mainester XL and connect to the Internet.
5. Click OK.
The Local Listening Port number that you wrote down is the conflicting TCP/IP port number. The other application must now be changed so that it does not use this port number.

Slow Connection with Mainester XL

If you experience a slow connection while using Mainester XL, please try the following:

Possible Solutions
A. Adjust your browser settings (Internet Explorer)
B. Adjust your acceleration speed
C. Keep using Mainester XL

A. Adjust your browser settings (Internet Explorer)
If you are using Internet Explorer, try the following:
1. Open Internet Explorer, go to the Tools menu, and select Internet Options.
2. In the Temporary Internet Files section, click the Settings... button.
3. Make sure Check for newer versions of stored pages is set to Automatically.
4. In the Amount of disk space to use for your temporary Internet files, make sure the slider is set to a level that allows efficient storing of pages on your hard drive. You should try to allow at least 500 MB, depending on the size of your hard drive.
5. Click OK and OK to exit.

B. Adjust your acceleration speed
1. Right-click the Mainester XL icon in the system tray at the lower right of your screen (or click on the word Mainester XL on the Mainester XL toolbar) and select Settings.
2. Adjust the slider on the Settings screen. The further to the left, the slower the acceleration. The further to the right, the faster the acceleration. Please ensure that you move the slider to the fastest acceleration.
Please note that this will increase your speed to its maximum, it will lower the quality of pictures you view on the Web.

If, at any time, you would prefer to see an original, uncompressed image on a Web page you visit using Mainester XL, right-click the image and select Show Original Image on the menu that appears. Please note that in Internet Explorer 5.0 and 5.5 browsers, this option may not work with all images.
You can also choose to display all of the images on a page without compression. To do this, right-click any image and select Show All Original Images in the menu that appears. This option works with all images in all browsers.

C. Keep using Mainester XL
Be sure to continue using Mainester XL regularly for a few days - the service will improve its efficiency with prolonged usage.

Adjusting Mainester XL Acceleration Speed

Most of the time required to display a Web page consists of downloading graphics on that page to your computer. Mainester XL is able to significantly speed up these graphic downloads by compressing graphics. This lowers the file sizes of the images, making Web pages load faster.
You can adjust how fast you want pages to load by adjusting the level of graphic compression and/or number of colors displayed.
To adjust acceleration speed:
1. Right-click on the Mainester XL icon in the system tray at the lower right of your screen and select Settings.

2. Adjust the slider on the Settings screen. The further to the left, the slower the acceleration. The further to the right, the faster the acceleration.

Viewing original images
If, at any time, you would prefer to see an original, uncompressed image on a Web page you visit using Mainester XL, right-click the image and select Show Original Image on the menu that appears. Please note that in Internet Explorer 5.0 and 5.5 browsers, this option may not work with all images.

You can also choose to display all of the images on a page without compression. To do this, right-click on any image and select Show All Original Images on the menu that appears. This option works with all images in all browsers.

How do I start Mainester XL?

Mainester XL automatically starts whenever you connect to the internet. You will know that it is started because a icon will appear in your system tray at the lower right of your screen.

If this icon does not appear, then Mainester XL has not been properly installed.

If the icon does appear, but displays with a red Mainester XL Running Man Icon, either you have not purchased the Mainester XL service for the account that you logged on with, or there is a technical problem preventing you from using Mainester XL.

How do I Disable Mainester XL?

You can temporarily disable Mainester XL by right-clicking on the Mainester XL icon in the system tray on the lower-right of your screen, and choosing Stop Mainester XL Acceleration. The Mainester XL Running Man will turn red.

Mainester XL can be later re-enabled from the same menu, if desired. It will also be automatically re-enabled the next time you log on to the internet.
